SSI TRAINING PHILOSOPHY - THE SSI DIVER DIAMOND

SSI programs provide an underwater experience that brings people together as they learn the value of communication and cooperation, both above and below the surface. The SSI range of programs is one of the most effectively designed and thoroughly tested diver education systems in the world. There are six distinct components to becoming a diver — proper knowledge, skills, equipment, experience, responsibility and environment. We call this the SSI Diver Diamond.

KNOWLEDGE

Divers develop a deep comprehension of dive theory, physics, physiology, equipment, and safety procedures via SSI’s digital learning platform. During interactive review sessions, your SSI Dive Professional will teach you how “land value” — what you learn out of the water — relates to “water value” — what you do with information in the water.

SKILLS

Practical in-water training focuses on mastering core scuba skills in confined and open water environments under professional supervision. SSI Dive Professional will lead you through a series of comprehensive skill exercises for you to practice until they become second nature.

EQUIPMENT

Proper selection, setup, and maintenance of scuba equipment are emphasized to ensure comfort, efficiency, and safety during every dive. Owning a total diving system is a great start to learning the sport and it also feels comfortable in your own scuba equipment. Your SSI Dive Professional will work with you to carefully select the appropriate equipment that is right for you.

experience

Real-world dive experience builds judgment, awareness, and adaptability in different conditions. The more you dive, the more you will enjoy the sport. So, get out there, explore new worlds, meet new friends and see why diving with an SSI Training Center is “The Ultimate Dive Experience!”

RESPONSIBILITY

Being a responsible diver means staying current with the latest safety protocols and understanding the environmental conditions of each dive site. Safe scuba diving is built on a foundation of continuous learning, environmental stewardship, and a genuine commitment to expanding your skills and knowledge with every underwater experience. Regular training updates, awareness of local marine ecosystems, and respect for diving guidelines ensure that you and your team remain safe while exploring the underwater world.

ENVIRONMENT

Real-world dive experience in varied underwater environments strengthens your decision-making, environmental awareness, and ability to respond to changing conditions. Every dive deepens your skills and confidence. Discover pristine dive sites, connect with fellow enthusiasts, and experience why Scuba is an unforgettable underwater experience.

EQUIPMENT MAINTAINENCE

SSI scuba equipment maintenance emphasizes the importance of proper care, regular inspection, and professional servicing to ensure diver safety, reliability, and optimal performance underwater. Divers are trained to understand their equipment, perform pre-dive and post-dive checks, rinse and store gear correctly after every dive, and recognize early signs of wear or malfunction. SSI also stresses the value of manufacturer-recommended servicing by authorized technicians, especially for life-support equipment such as regulators, buoyancy control devices, and cylinders. By following SSI maintenance guidelines, divers extend the lifespan of their equipment, reduce the risk of equipment failure, and develop responsible diving habits that support safe and enjoyable dive experiences worldwide.

MEDICAL & FITNESS REQUIREMENTS

SSI's scuba diving requirements emphasize safety through medical screenings and physical fitness evaluations. A detailed medical questionnaire is necessary to assess any conditions that may impact diving, like respiratory issues or recent surgeries. Divers must also meet basic fitness criteria to participate in training. The detailed medical questionnaire helps identify any potential health risks that could affect diving.

DIVE INSURANCE

Dive insurance is a critical component of safe and responsible scuba diving, and SSI strongly recommends specialized dive insurance such as Dive Assure for all divers, especially those undergoing training or diving regularly. Unlike standard travel or health insurance, dive-specific insurance is designed to cover diving-related incidents, including decompression illness, arterial gas embolism, and other hyperbaric injuries that require specialized treatment such as recompression chamber therapy.

Dive Assure, offers comprehensive dive accident coverage combined with travel protection, trip cancellation, lost equipment coverage, and global evacuation services, which is particularly beneficial for divers traveling internationally or participating in liveaboard and remote dive trips. SSI training philosophy emphasizes risk management and preparedness, and having appropriate dive insurance ensures financial protection, access to emergency medical care, and peace of mind for divers, instructors, and dive centers alike.

By choosing Dive Assure, divers align with SSI’s safety-first approach, ensuring they are protected both underwater and beyond, wherever their diving journey takes them.
